Chapter 1 : General Provisions
Article 1 The name of the society shall be the Movement Disorder Society of Japan ("MDSJ").
Chapter 2 : Objectives and Activities
Article 2 MDSJ is non-profit organization aiming at contributing to the improvement of clinical competence relating to diagnosis and treatment of diseases of MDSJ members centering on movement disorders and at development of neuroscience centering on movement disorders, and dissemination of knowledge to the general public.
Article 3 MDSJ shall engage in the following activities to achieve the purposes as referred to in the preceding article:
1. Hosting general meetings, 2. Academic meetings, 3. Holding education courses, 4. Hosting other symposiums and lectures, etc., 5. Publication, 6. Cooperative activities with international societies especially with the Movement Disorder Society, 7. Cooperative activities with domestic societies, 8. Hosting open public lectures, 9. Other activities necessary for the objectives of the MDSJ.
Chapter 3 : Members
Article 4 Members of MDSJ shall be healthcare professionals, care workers, and researchers who approve the objectives of MDSJ, and who have been through the prescribed procedures for participation. The prescribed procedures of participation shall be stipulated separately. MDSJ may also have supporting members.
Article 5 Members shall pay annual member fees as specified separately.
Chapter 4 : Officers and Staff
Article 6 MDSJ shall have an Officers' Meeting and an Executive Committee for smooth operation of MDSJ.
Article 7 Officers' Meeting shall be composed of the following seven members in total:
President, Secretary, Treasurer, President-elect, Secretary-elect, Treasurer-elect, and Past (immediately previous) president. The terms of office for the respective posts shall be two (2) years, and continuous reappointment shall not be allowed. President-elect, Secretaryelect, and Treasurer-elect, shall hold their offices for two years, and then assume the office of regular posts, that is, President, Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. These officers shall be appointed through election by members.
Article 8 Number of Executive Committee members shall be twelve or fewer, and the term of office shall be four years, and continuous reappointment shall not be allowed. Every two years half of the Executive Committee members shall be reelected. One person cannot hold the post of officer and Executive Committee member at the same time. Executive Committee members shall be appointed through election by members.
Article 9 Officers' Meeting shall convene the Executive Committee and perform deliberations and resolutions necessary for the activities of MDSJ.
Article 10 Upon holding and management of MDSJ Academic Meeting, MDSJ shall appoint one Organizing (Preparing) Committee Chairperson. Organizing Committee Chairperson shall be elected at the joint committee of the Officers' Meeting and Executive Committee, and be determined through approval at the general meeting. The term of office of Organizing Committee Chairperson shall be from the day following the conclusion of the session of the regular academic meeting to the final day of the following academic meeting.
Article 11 MDSJ shall have one Auditor and one Auditor-elect. Auditor shall audit the accounting of MDSJ, and report thereon to the general meeting. Auditor and Auditor-elect shall be elected out of members at the joint committee of the Officers' Meeting and Executive Committee, and determined through approval at the general meeting. The term of office of Auditor shall be two years, and continuous reappointment shall not be allowed. Auditor-elect, shall work two years as Auditor-elect, and then assume the office of Auditor. Auditor and Auditor-elect may join the Officers' Meeting and Executive Committee, and provide opinions.
Chapter 5 : Meetings
Article 12 General meetings shall be composed of members. Regular general meetings shall be held once a year in principle and be convened by the President. President shall chair regular general meetings. Extraordinary general meeting shall be convened by the President when President judges it necessary, or when one-third or greater of regular members, or half or greater of Executive Committee members so request.
Article 13 Resolutions by the general meeting shall be established though approval of a majority of the persons present at the general meeting. Persons who express intent with letters of proxy with regard to the agenda of the general meeting that has been conveyed in advance shall be deemed present as to the relevant agenda.
Chapter 6 : Academic Meetings
Article 14 MDSJ shall hold an academic meeting once a year. Preparation for and holding of academic meetings (including fund-raising and accounting) shall be performed at the responsibility of Officers' Meeting.
Article 15 The program of academic meetings shall be determined by the Officers' Meeting and Executive Committee.
Article 16 Organizing Committee Chairperson of academic meetings shall attend Officers' Meeting and Executive Committee, and assist in preparing and holding academic meetings. Supplementary Provisions: Society Regulations shall come in to effect on June 1, 2006. Society Regulations shall be maintained in accordance with the methods determined at Officers' Meeting.
